A high-level overview of the internet networking requirements for satellites to print in your warehouse
This is intended for Warehouse/Operations managers.
Why do we have network requirements?
To print in your warehouse with a satellite, it needs to be connected as follows:
- A direct connection between the printer and the satellite, via a USB adaptor (the printer itself therefore has no firewalling or special network requirements)
- A connection between the satellite and the internet via either ethernet or wifi. This connection is used to instruct the printer what to print and when, and to report back on printer performance
What are the requirements?
- For Wifi, a strong and consistent signal connection for the artwork to be downloaded
- Access is configured as per below.
What do you need to do?
- If you are using the equivalent of a home or simple office connection with a basic router then it is highly unlikely there will be anything in place which will prevent our internet connection and so no actions will likely be required. We can test at installation time to confirm.
- If you are using a business network connection or as part of a managed service IT provider then you will need to share this document and information with your IT manager/network provider/IT managed service provide and get confirmation from them that:
- The all the listed firewall rules have been implemented
- The satellite will have outbound access on all of the listed ports
- The satellite will have inbound access on all of the listed ports
- Update the Penny Black Team that you have received the above confirmation which will trigger a satellite being sent to your warehouse site to test the connection
