An overview of the different packing processes that Penny Black supports
The intended readers for this article are Warehouse/Operations managers.
Depending on your packing process you can use either one or a combination of our printing process solutions. See more about each below:
Batch printing
-
Do you print a batch of shipping labels/packing slips initially and use these to pack the orders in batches? Like the video below
- (Commonly seen when packing large volumes of one SKU, like supplements or subscription orders)
-
You can use our batch printing option for this, see the below video of how our printers can print a batch of inserts at the same time as your shipping labels.
-
The Penny Black inserts will print in the same order sequence as your shipping labels.
-
We recommend that the merchants you fulfil add the order ID or a barcode to the insert design so that it is easy to reconcile (highlighted in yellow below)
-
Depending on your volumes you may need just one printer.
Single Prints
- Do you pack and print shipping labels one at a time per order? You can use our single print solution shown in the following video:
- The print should be triggered as early as possible so that it is finished printing before the packer has finished packing the order and the insert can be taken off the printer and put into the package without waiting.
- You will need a printer per workbench for this solution
- We suggest automated triggers where possible so that no additional action is required for the print to start. We also suggest reprint buttons just in case.
Summary
You can use one or both of the above solutions depending on your packing setup. The number of printers you will need will be based on which of the above solutions you select and how many workbenches you use.
We have existing WMS integrations that cater for either and sometimes both of these methods.
