Why is my printer jamming?

A guide to help resolve the common causes of jamming Epson inkjet printers

Printers: Epson C5290/ C5390 (although these common tips can apply to many printers)

Common causes of jamming

Printer jams do happen occasionally. However, the following tips will help reduce the frequency. If prints are jamming more than 1% of the time then something is wrong.

Paper gets stuck

This is possible when using the main tray. To resolve stuck card:

  • remove the hatch at the back of the printer (the catch is in the center on the rear side)
  • use your hand to check for card jams - remove the card if necessary

Shiny or overly thick card

Shiny card or thick card can cause your printer to jam more often. In order for your printer not to jam you need to use matte uncoated paper

Overfilling the trays

  • remove both trays (B & C1), and check for excess paper load, remove some if necessary
  • tray C1 can hold approx 100 cards, Tray B can hold approx 35 cards

If your printer is still consistently jamming after removing excess paper and your paper is matte please contact the Penny Black team
